It’s true: result-driven skincare would be nothing without conscious ingredients. While seeing a million ingredients you can’t pronounce on a product’s ingredient list can be daunting, rest assured, they’re there to help you glow. At Earth Harbor, we believe powerful ingredients are sustainably sourced from our equally powerful surroundings. Given that our clients inform our decisions, we aim to create effective and planet-positive skincare. And, we believe in cultivating skincare with ingredients you recognize, know, and love.


We are the first-ever toxicologist and herbalist founded skincare brand to break onto the scene. With our recent launch at Ulta Beauty (yes, you can now get points for your favorite Earth Harbor skincare gems!), this is a massive milestone for our bootstrapped indie brand and the planet-conscious space. With this recent milestone, we want to talk about the ingredients (AKA the foundation) behind our brand.


Audited by an environmental global health expert, and with all our products made in our own certified in-house lab, we pride ourselves on our products being both accessible and sustainable. 

What We Use

It all begins with the ingredients we use: plant-based, vegan, and cruelty-free. Vegan bio-actives have been clinically proven to provide similar efficacy as their animal-derived counterparts. Additionally, they’re typically less sensitizing and extra friendly to both our skin barriers and the planet! Below is a snapshot of some of the ingredients we love to use here at Earth Harbor.

Botanical Vitamin A 

Vitamin A is foundational to effective skincare formulations. Our botanical versions are naturally occurring in our extracts and support the efficacy of other vitamins and nutrients in our formulas and are non-sensitizing & non photo-sensitizing for most skin types. Vitamin A occurs naturally in our bodies and is responsible for skin, eye, and reproductive health in addition to proper immune function. When applied topically to the skin, it can help reduce hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and visible signs of aging.

Botanical Retinol 

Botanical retinol alternatives, like bakuchiol (found in our lovely OBSCURA), are gentler on the skin than their retinoid counterparts. It’s a potent vegan antioxidant that helps reduce hyperpigmentation and fight off environmental aggressors. It doesn’t increase sun sensitivity and is gentle enough for daily use. Long-term studies have shown that it’s just as effective as regular retinol. While Vitamin A is at the core of  many retinoid formulas, the gems below have different derivatives (such as bakuchiol).

Botanical Vitamin C

It wouldn’t be a successful skincare ritual without vitamin C, and our plant-based versions are non-sensitizing and non-photosensitizing! A natural antioxidant, vitamin C helps fight visible signs of aging and free radical damage. In addition to its potent antioxidant properties, vitamin C can visibly improve skin texture, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. In our  CALYPSO Vitamin C Moisture Elixir, we use sea berry-derived vitamin C. All our vitamin C derivates are sourced from plants and fruits. We believe that topical vitamin C should have a place in everyone’s skincare ritual!

Botanical Vitamin E 

Vitamin E is essential for skin health. In fact, it doesn’t get as much love as it should in the skincare world. It’s found naturally in botanical oils, like coconut and olive oils (which we use in plenty of our products!). It’s been clinically proven to fight off free radicals and have anti-inflammatory properties. This ultimate skin-soother works on a molecular level to protect and cushion your skin in the fight against pollutants, irritants, and allergens.

Naturally-Derived Niacinamide

In recent years, niacinamide has generated a lot of buzz within the skincare community, and rightfully so! This all-star ingredient, also known as vitamin B3, is becoming a tried and true multi-tasker. It works overtime to even out skin tone, lighten discoloration, improve skin texture, and fortify the skin barrier. And, it’s safe for everyone to use!

Vegan Hyaluronic Acid

Naturally occurring in our bodies, hyaluronic acid is responsible for lubricating our connective tissue. When applied topically to the skin, it’s been scientifically proven to plump and hydrate. Additionally, it helps make up our skin’s natural structure. Without hyaluronic acid, it’s much harder to hydrate the skin topically. Our vegan + botanical hyaluronic acid alternatives make it easer than ever to achieve plump, dewy skin!

Mineral Sunscreen 

Ask any dermatologist, esthetician, or skincare enthusiast which one skincare practice you should incorporate every day and listen to the resounding, choir-like “sunscreen” you hear. Sunscreen is vital in protecting the skin against cancer-causing UV rays. Additionally, it also drastically minimizes the risk of developing sun damage-related photoaging. Mineral sunscreen, or SPF, is safe for coral reefs and protects the skin immediately upon application.

Botanical Probiotics 

Probiotics have taken the skincare world by storm in recent years. Our bodies naturally contain good bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Given that our skin is our largest organ, it makes sense that it has a microbiome. Our skin’s microbiome helps fight inflammation and forms a protective layer to fight off external aggressors. They play a vital role in keeping our skin happy and healthy! All our probiotics are derived from fermented plants, making them truly vegan.

Vegan Peptides

Vegan peptides play a critical role in our skin health. In fact, they aid the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Peptides are gentle on the skin – especially when they’re vegan (like ours!). They strengthen our skin barrier, reduce wrinkles, and restore skin elasticity. Copper peptides are a common vegan skincare practice and they can be found in AZURE Regenerative Neck Creme!

Vegan Proteins 

When applied topically, vegan proteins help to stimulate collagen synthesis. Collagen is the magic behind our skin. It helps to smooth, plump, and restore. By applying vegan proteins in your skincare ritual, you can help stimulate collagen production naturally! Our vegan MSM (also known as glucosamine, which is found in our lovely BLUE CRUSH Marine Perfecting Mask) helps to boost collagen and keratin production naturally within the skin.

Botanical Omegas 

Omegas serve vital purposes throughout our bodies, such as promoting brain and heart health. When applied in topical skincare, they can moisturize the skin and help aid the health of the skin barrier. They’re known for addressing surface dryness and locking in hydration. Sea kelp and jojoba oils are rich in omega fatty acids, which are present in most Earth Harbor products!

Botanical Enzymes 

Enzymes are essential proteins found in our skin. When applied topically, they yield a number of positive benefits, such as enzymatic exfoliation. They’re also great alongside other ingredients and don’t cause any major chemical reactions like other ingredients can when combined. Fruit enzymes are nature’s alpha-hydroxy acids, and can be found in a variety of Earth Harbor products.

Botanical Acids 

Much like sunscreen and vitamin C, acids also play a critical role in our skin health and wellness. They help slough off dead skin cells to reveal radiant clear skin. They also speed up cell turnover to fight against visible signs of aging. They work by loosening the glue that holds dead skin cells together and exfoliating within the pore lining. White willow bark extract, nature’s salicylic acid, is present in many of our products, like some listed below!

Botanical Antioxidants 

Antioxidants are at the heart of all Earth Harbor formulations. Without antioxidants, our skin would be left vulnerable to free radicals and pollutants. Antioxidants can also help speed up cell turnover, fight signs of aging, reduce breakouts, and even out skin tone. Our skin needs antioxidants to stay happy and healthy!

Vegan Collagen

What We Don’t Use 

At Earth Harbor, we keep all of our products free from synthetic ingredients (artificial dyes, fragrances, synthetic preservatives), GMOs, gluten, soy, toxins, fillers, chemical additives, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, phenoxyethanol, dimethicone, emulsifying wax, nanoparticles, mineral oils, petroleum, and over 2,700 other questionable chemicals found in the beauty industry— including all 1,300+ banned in the EU.
